Wilderness at Smokies to see the largest expansion in the park’s history

Wilderness at Smokies officials recently announced that they have begun the largest $40 million expansion and renovation in the resort’s history.

This expansion is in honor of the facility’s 15th anniversary in 2023.

Resort officials recently held a special groundbreaking event to celebrate this event.

Here are nine new features you can expect to see at the property soon:

1. Switchback Mountain coaster

In general, the resort plans to add almost 40,000 square feet To the Wild WaterDome indoor water park.

Switchback Mount It will be one of the new core features. It will be a three-deck water train, the premiere of the world’s first slide, with three steep drops, uphill bursts, high speeds and Inverted AquaLucent effects.

These special tubes will also filter the light, adding shine to the Wild WaterDome.

The ride will start at 29 mph and will include multiple drops and uphill bursts.

After the first 22m drop, a second drop will come into an open channel, followed by an uphill blast into a sharp left turn inside another Reverse AquaLucent tube.

The base will continue a final series of models inside another Reverse AquaLucent tube for the third time. To complete the sensations, riders will go through a dark tube before finishing in an open channel.

“Switchback Mountain is guaranteed to be amazing,” said Pete Tennis, Smokies Wilderness General Manager.

2. Forbidden Caves Lazy River

The Aquapark expansion will also include: Forbidden Caves Lazy River.

The new lazy river will have an immersive tunnel experience with lighting, mirrors and projections as well as an LED color changing kaleidoscope.

3. Lookout Lagoon

The resort will also benefit from the water park’s expanded rooftop. Lookout Lagoona glass-sided rooftop pool.

This is expected to change the exterior of Wilderness in Smokies.

4. Peak Roof Bar and Grating

New rooftop pool nearby, Peak Roof Bar and Grating.

This space will also feature three loft cabins and an entertainment stage. An elevator will transport guests to and from this area.

Additionally, the facility will add at least 500 seats to the water park.

They will also add six additional cabins to the water park’s mezzanine level and nine additional cabins to the main level.

5. Camp Social

In addition to the expansion of the water park, guests will soon see a new makeover at one of the resort’s restaurants.

The resort’s Thirsty Miner restaurant will be renovated and renamed. The 5,000-square-foot space will be transformed into a family-friendly dining room called. Camp Social.

The new Camp Social will have a summer camp theme.

Within Camp Social, guests will be able to enjoy a buffet breakfast and food options from The Burger Bar, Tacolicous, Lily’s Campsite Pizza Bakery, Coffee Canteen.

Camp Social will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is scheduled to open in time for the 2022 Christmas season.

6. Cloud Bottom journey

In addition to the main expansion, the facility has a closed suspended Cloud Coaster To the Adventure Forest.

The new Rocky Top Glider is designed to interact with Adventure’s Forest’s other attractions such as mini golf, mini bowling, and rope course.

It will have a track length of approximately 400 linear feet with two lift tops.

The award-winning family train will mostly hang from the ceiling of the Adventure Forest, reducing the amount of structures required for operation.

A raised platform will launch riders in the air at a starting height of 18 feet with a maximum height of about 25 feet.

In particular, the cloud train will be the first of its kind in Tennessee. There are only eight versions in the world.

Guests who are at least 40 inches tall can ride. Maximum riding weight will be 250 pounds per seat.

Construction of this project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023. The Adventure Forest will remain open during construction.

7. XD Theater

An eight-seat XD theater will also be added to the Adventure Forest.

The theater offers a multi-sensory, immersive experience with 3D stereoscopic graphics with visual effects. It will be completed in the fall of 2022.

There will be a TV/video wall nearby where guests can watch sporting events, and there will also be an area for classic garden games.

8. Molly’s Shake Shoppe

Grizzly’s Grill The WaterDome will also be renewed in 2023 and Molly’s Shake Shoppe, Ice cream, which will be mixed with crazy flavors and sauces and served in shakes, will be added in 2023.

9. Additional Villas

Last but not least, the resort is building 12 new three-bedroom villas that can sleep up to 12 people and are larger than 2,600 square feet.

They will be available for lease from early 2023.

Each unit will be 2,600 square meters and will be fully furnished.

They’ll also have an electric fireplace, games room with pool table, and a view overlooking the Sevierville Golf Course.

When will expansions in Wilderness open?

Unless otherwise noted, major expansion plans are expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.

Wilderness is owned by Wilderness Resort and Waterparks, a hotel and hospitality development and management company based in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. They also operate the Wilderness Resort, Glacier Canyon Lodge, Wilderness on the Lake, and Sundara Spa, all in the Wisconsin Dells.

The resort is a sister park to the nearby Soaky Mountain Water Park in Sevierville.
