You got flowers You got oysters. Now seal the deal with these great sweets for Valentine’s Day.
Like Mariah Carey every Christmas, Singaporean chocolatier Janice Wong shows up for every occasion with a new dessert, and she sculpted a chocolate heart for Valentine’s Day. Lady M bakes bon bons in a heart-shaped box as well as raspberry and chocolate cake, while Le Matin’s new bistro marks its first Valentine’s Day with strawberry shortcake.
Italian grocer Da Paolo Gastronomia is now stocking artisan brand DeWitt chocolates, which makes them as Gianduoto, a Piedmontese chocolate specialty with hazelnuts. Black Tap serves milkshakes topped with Red Velvet Cake, and a re-imagining of one of their signature items with Eggslut Berries and Cream Cheese. Japanese fillings and low-sugar pastries come courtesy of Baker Ax and Chocolata, while Level 33 transforms leftover beer brewing ingredients into chocolate, banana and hazelnut tarts.

Baker X, which supports home bakers by giving them a physical space to showcase their concept, has partnered with Chocolaty on Valentine’s Day. Founder Dawn Yong makes all of her goods from scratch with less sugar and without artificial colors and flavors, which is exemplified by her Matcha Kinako Roll Cake, a fluffy matcha sponge cake rolled with Kinako Chantilly Cream, and Bittersweet Matcha is piped with ganache. She also serves tart slices with flavors like goma and genmica pistachio, as well as the koicha financier – a brown butter matcha financier filled with silky matcha ganache.

Milkshakes make good fodder for over-the-top flavorings, and Black Tap doesn’t disappoint. For Valentine’s Day, the craft beer and burger restaurant is serving up the CrazyShake, a red velvet cake batter shake served in a giant glass with a vanilla frosted rim and red and white sprinkles. It is then crowned with red velvet cake, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.

Paolo from Gastronomy
Da Paolo Gastronomia is now carrying Davitt Chocolate, an artisanal Italian chocolate brand. The treat is made with high-quality cacao from Venezuela to Ecuador, and comes in flavors like sugar-free, salted orange, and hazelnut-filled gianduioto. The specialty grocer is also selling gianduetto truffles, or individually wrapped ingot-shaped chocolates, mixed with a gooey chocolate center made with Piedmontese IGP hazelnuts.

Eggslut’s regular Slut dish includes a jar of poached eggs over mashed potatoes, and their limited-time offer keeps the concept but turns it from savory to sweet. Berries Cheesecake Sluts combine mixed berries cream cheese and rich vanilla cream cheese on a crunchy cookie base, and the whole thing is topped with egg yolk-like citrus shells. Available at their Scotts Square and Suntec City locations.

Janice Wong doesn’t make sweets, she makes sculptures. Her Heart of Eternity sculpture uses her Pure Imagination Bean to Bar Single Origin 70% Dark Chocolate from Sierra Nevada to create a circular showstopper. It also reminds me of my Decathlon massage ball, if only the knobs were heart shaped. Other Valentines Day items from her include Valentines Signature Bon Bons with five new flavours, Heart-Shaped, Cream Cheese, and Strawberry Rose Compote Valentine Cake, and 70% Bean to Bar Elderflower Dark Chocolate from her Pure Imagination range.

Lady M’s You’re Loved gift set comes with three new Bon Bon flavors locked in a heart-shaped box, including Lychee Rose Almond, Salted Caramel Pearls and Raspberry Kissing Jelly inspired by the French Macaron España flavor. The patisserie is also offering the Framboise au Chocolate Cake, which has velvety chocolate mousse atop layers of raspberry compote and chocolate sponge, then finished with ganache and raspberry jelly.

The traditional cake gets a makeover with Valrhona Strawberry Chocolate, Vanilla Sponge and Cream, Strawberry Gum Brulée, Jam and Glazed Fresh Strawberry Slices. Microbrewery Level33 has a practice of incorporating elements of beer brewing into their dishes, and it’s no different for this Valentine’s Day dessert. Part of its February 14 special menu, Spent Grain Banana Tarts are made with leftover grains from their brewing process. Dulce de leche forms the base of the dessert, before being layered with 68% cacao Valrhona chocolate mousse and banana puree, then topped with dehydrated banana slices and hazelnut praline.
