SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – New video captured on a Ring doorbell camera shows a delivery driver from a popular sandwich chain throwing a customer’s order at his door.
Jimmy John’s is known for its Freaky Fast, Freaky Good sandwiches, but on Saturday night around 9 p.m. on Sutherland Lane in South Bend, this airlift delivery might not be what the long-time customer was expecting.
“Well, what happened is my eldest; he placed an order online,” said South Bend resident Erika Medrano. “So, we just heard a knock on the door.”
Because her son selected the ‘leave at door’ option on online delivery, the family didn’t expect to hear a bang or splat.
“And my son, he goes, mom, guess what happened,” Medrano said. “I was like, what? What happened? He says the guy from Jimmy John’s just walked in and threw the sandwich out the door.
After seeing the video of the sandwich flying through the air like a rolled up newspaper, Medrano said his first reaction was anger.
“And when I saw the guy throwing the sandwich at my door, I was like, why is he doing this, Medrano asked. “I have dogs. I don’t even do that stuff to my dogs. .
When her anger subsided, Medrano was able to laugh at the situation and even said she would give the sandwich toss an 8/10.
“Maybe he was like, well, maybe this is the last one, let’s go,” laughed Medrano. “How about we order Chinese food?” And then it’ll be on my… spaghetti on the floor. Or Italian cuisine? If you can imagine it all over my door?
All airy cooking jokes aside, Medrano only wants the sandwich maker to fulfill his order as he would any paying customer.
“I think we just have to be respectful with people,” Medrano added. “Because we pay for the food. We pay for delivery.
The total cost of the order was $11.75 and the store is a 3 minute drive from the residence.
Medrano also told 16 News Now that the restaurant offered her money, but for her, it’s not about the money; this is the principle of the question.
“I went to talk to the store yesterday, and the guy just told me I could get my money back,” Medrano explained. “I said it wasn’t because of the money; it is because of the action. That’s all. I do not want any money; I don’t want the free sandwiches or anything like that. But I want them to talk to the delivery guy (and say) they’re just being respectful to people. Don’t throw away the sandwiches like that.
A spokesperson for Jimmy John told 16 News Now that the driver no longer worked at the store and that they had contacted the guest to resolve the issue.
Medrano also said it might take his family a while, but they’ll be ordering delivery from Jimmy John’s again.
16 News Now can thankfully report that the sandwich survived its bumpy flight and was still good, despite the slightly squashed bread.

The Jimmy John’s franchise store involved in the situation is located at 1290 E. Ireland Rd.
The ‘Outstanding Delivery’ sign at the Jimmy John’s Ireland Road location was darkened two days after a delivery driver initiated a delivery to a customer’s residence.
