These 10 businesses are some of the area’s most favorite black-owned eateries, serving up everything from healthy vegetarian meals to decadent desserts.

Abby’s Plant-Based Recipes
Abby’s Plant-Based Cuisine serves plant-based, nutrition-conscious cuisine. Each home-cooked meal is made with fresh ingredients.
“The food I prepare is 100 percent plant-based,” explained owner Abby Hucklebee. “My food is homemade and cooked with the freshest ingredients, and I enjoy what I do and put love and passion into every dish.”

Aster Farm to Table
Astor Farm to Table features authentic cuisine from Latin America to South Africa. The eatery showcases cuisine from around the world, including home cooked dishes from Argentina, Venezuela and South Africa. Owner and chef Casey Castro and his team also serve a selection of prime meats, fresh seafood, and American traditional breakfasts.

Auntie Bill’s Soul Food
Ryan and Kevin McCullers, owners of Auntie Bill’s Soul Food, serve traditional soul food dishes handed down by Kevin’s family. Auntie Bill’s also has a stage for live music. Once a month, the restaurant hosts “Date Night at Auntie Bee’s,” an evening featuring soul food and jazz.

Hank’s Crab Shack
Crab dishes are one of the specialties at Hank’s Crab Shack. The Cajun restaurant offers a taste of Louisiana to all who visit. Hank’s offers authentic Cajun food including gumbo, etouffee, red beans and rice, and fresh seafood.

Not Your Average Fry features gourmet fries as the base for each dish, which are dressed up with toppings to create a complete meal. Each menu item has a different topping, but the core of the meal is always the humble french fry, said Lennar Cage, owner of Not Your Average Fry. Fries are served on top of dishes such as Carne Asada, Philly Cheesesteak, Chili, Crispy Chicken or Buffalo Chicken.

Raw Chef Renee
Wildly popular vegan food truck Raw Chef Renee serves up raw, plant-based dishes. One of Raw Chef Renee’s most popular creations is the Organic Veggie Stir-Not-Fry, a mix of bok choy, mushrooms, carrots, celery, broccoli, red bell peppers and bean sprouts in a sauce made from oranges, lemons, limes Marinated. Tamari, olive oil and ginger.

Ray J’s Feel Good Food
Ray J’s Feel Good Food cooks up fast, casual American Southern comfort food with a vegetarian twist. All of Ray J’s food truck offerings are 100 percent plant-based. The food is so delicious that even meat lovers would not be aware that the dishes are vegetarian.

Good Crawfish Suck More
Sucking Good Crawfish & More is an authentic Cajun seafood emporium. Sucking Good specializes in succulent and succulent seafood with a mouth-watering butter sauce.

New-American sandwich food truck Tasty Buddies serves gourmet classics like Philly Cheesesteak, but also has plenty of signature dishes. Tasty Buddies creates juicy, tender and delicious sandwiches from scratch. Owner and CEO JL Patterson honed his craft in Milwaukee then brought his popular Wisconsin cuisine to Katy’s.

Folded Grilled Cheese
Twisted Grilled Cheese offers over 10 different takes on the classic sandwich and a full bar in a family-friendly atmosphere. While Twisted Grilled Cheese also offers other items – such as chicken tenders, salads, wraps and classic sides – grilled cheese is the focus of the menu. Grilled cheese options include Philly cheesesteak, brisket, pizza, lobster, and more.
