Cuisinart Hand Mixer: What We Love

The Cuisinart Hand Mixer is a kitchen powerhouse. There’s a lot to like about this gadget, from its LED display to its handy storage case. While it doesn’t have the hands-free, bulk mixing capability of a stand mixer, this handheld device can certainly hold its own.
General complaints about hand mixers include their inability to stand up without eventually falling over, their remarkable tendency to splatter, and attachments that never seem to end up in the same drawer.
Cuisinart’s hand blender, however, makes all of those inconveniences a thing of the past. This portable unit can rest securely on its back so you don’t have to lay it flat when not in use, helping to keep your workspace organized and clean.
It also comes with a storage case to hold all your accessories. The beater clips onto the top of the case, while the cord stores neatly inside for the perfect all-in-one storage solution for your mixer. You’ll save a lot of time looking for missing parts when you can just pop out this complete container and start cooking whenever you want.
Another feature we love is the slow speed start of this hand mixer. Its speed range is excellent: you can get a slow, mess-free start before increasing the turbo speed as needed for thick, even cookie doughs and fluffy egg whites or whipped cream.
To really appreciate this feature, new users might want to read the manual, as many complain that the slow speed of the device is way too fast. There is, however, a small trick.
When you turn on the blender, it will start with a fast spin before slowing down to the low speed setting you have chosen. If you already have the beater resting in your ingredients, that initial burst of power can cause messy splatters or puffs, which is why it’s important to turn it on outside of the bowl. Once the low speed is activated, run the beater through your ingredients for mess-free mixing.
Our favorite bonus feature has to be the mixer’s LED speed display, for the sole reason that it makes hand-mixing a little more high-tech.

Cuisinart Hand Mixer: Design

The Cuisinart Hand Mixer is only available in Classic White, Brushed Chrome, and Black, and while it doesn’t have a non-slip handle, its ergonomic shape provides a secure, comfortable grip for added control.
The blender’s speed settings are located near the front of the handle and can easily be controlled while holding it. Once you turn on the blender, there are + and – buttons to increase or decrease its speed, and the current speed setting from 1 (low) to 9 (high) will light up on the mini LED display.
To remove the beaters, simply press the eject button located near the bottom of the handle.
The back of the blender is flat enough to balance upright, while the front is rounded and features air vents to prevent overheating.
While stand mixers are only compatible with their accompanying bowl, the Cuisinart hand mixer is compatible with any bowl you own. This means you won’t have to clean the same bowl over and over again to mix different ingredients, making the whole cooking process much more convenient.
This hand blender requires virtually no setup and doesn’t take up much storage space. It’s incredibly easy to use and can help you perform a wide range of kitchen tasks flawlessly.

Cuisinart Hand Mixer: Features

Weighing nearly four pounds, this blender is slightly heavier than other models. Its high power, however, gets things done faster, meaning you won’t have to hold it as long as lighter, less powerful blenders.

This blender has nine speed settings and it features an on/off button with separate knobs for speed control. Be sure to always start blending on low speed; you can slowly increase its speed as the blender incorporates wet and dry ingredients together or as liquids begin to thicken.
Low speed mixing should be used for thicker doughs and when using the dough hooks to knead. Medium speeds are ideal for cake batters, while high speeds are ideal for aeration, including whipping egg whites and cream.

This hand mixer comes with all the accessories you’ll need for whipping, mixing and kneading: you’ll receive two beaters, a whisk and two spiral dough hooks.
Regular beaters are used for beating cake batters, cheesecake, icing, waffles, pancakes and cookies. They’re ideal for creaming butter and sugar and fluffing up mashed potatoes, and you can also use them for mixing eggs for an omelette, as you won’t want to incorporate too much air.
We love the practicality of the beater’s design. Older style batters have a center post surrounded by a batter cage, and this center post is where batter tends to get stuck and collect. These types of beaters usually need scraping and can be difficult to clean. The beaters on this Cuisinart hand mixer don’t feature such a center post, however, reducing the chance of your dough getting stuck around the light fixtures. Even though the batter gets in the middle, these beaters are much easier to clean.
Spiral dough hooks can be used for bread or pizza dough that requires kneading. We recommend sticking to smaller amounts when using your hand mixer for kneading, as larger recipes and very thick dough are best handled in a stand mixer or by hand.
The whisk attachment is an indispensable accessory for incorporating tiny air bubbles into egg whites and cream. Its balloon shape and thin metal cage design are specially designed to maximize ventilation. Although you can use the metal beaters to whip cream or egg whites, the whisk is more effective at dispersing many small air pockets without removing the air in the process. The mixing speed will also influence the size of the air pockets; as soon as the mixture begins to thicken on low speed, switch to a higher speed for ideal results.

The cord is approximately 24 inches long and its attachment point can swivel left and right. This allows you to work comfortably without the cord getting in the way whether you are right or left handed, and it also allows you to place the mixer upright on the counter.

This hand mixer comes with a spatula for scraping dough from beaters or sides of the bowl, as well as a recipe booklet and instruction manual. We love this bonus touch, and we’re sure you will too.

Things to consider

Although this hand mixer is near perfect, it lost a few points in our book because its attachments are chrome-plated stainless steel. They perform just as well as stainless steel attachments, and while there have been few complaints about their quality, we can’t help but compare them to other brands that offer full stainless steel attachments that don’t pose no risk of peeling or chipping.
Another disadvantage of this model is the noise factor. This mixer gets quite loud at higher speeds, so forget about trying to have a conversation while using it.
For such a practical kitchen appliance, we would also have liked to be able to choose from a wider range of colors.

Who is the Cuisinart Nine Speed Hand Blender recommended for?

This hand blender is a great choice for home cooks and home bakeries. With its excellent power and all-inclusive set of accessories, you can mix or prepare almost anything in no time. From morning waffles and souffles to icing, cheesecake, peanut butter brownies and kitchen sink cookies, this Cuisinart hand mixer can help you get the job done.
If you need to make large batches of bread or pizza dough, a stand mixer is recommended. Stand mixers feature more power and larger dough hooks, allowing them to perform the optimum kneading action by pushing dough down or against the sides of the bowl for gluten development and the incorporation of air. However, for kneading small amounts of dough, a handheld device should suffice.
If you have young children helping you in the kitchen, be sure to always supervise them, as the slightly heavier weight and extra power of this model make it difficult for little hands to control.
