There are 3 Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants that are Yelp’s “Best Pizza Locations” in North America
One of the best pizzerias in the United States is located in the Dallas suburb of Louisville, according to a recent listing from Yelp.
Motor City Pizza, a Detroit-style pie shop on FM 407 in Louisville, is ranked #16 in the US and is the only restaurant in the top 20 restaurants in Texas.
It bears repeating: Motor City is the best pizzeria in Texas, if you ask Yelp.
The restaurant has seen a significant uptick in business since the Yelp listing was published in late January 2023, says owner Greg Tierney.
Tierney is a Michigan native who opened Motor City as a pop-up during the pandemic. It was a common and clever idea shared by many other emerging restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth who realized that pizza was pandemic-friendly food and that the pop-up model kept costs down. Tierney moved his restaurant to a permanent location in Lewisville in October 2021, first for migration and later for sit-down service, by fall 2022.
Yelp listings can be a scratch because they use data to create “better” directories on the computer. Restaurants that seem obvious to frequent eaters (and also food journalists) are often excluded from these popular lists. But Yelp has strength with consumers, and getting the Yelp nod is a great reason to celebrate a small company like Motor City.
A Yelp blog post says the Motor City’s Chicken Strips Potato Chips have been a huge hit. And the pizzas are baked “in traditional blue steel pans – the same way Detroiters have been making pizzas since 1946”.
The menu includes typical Detroit-style pizza with Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, and red sauce as well as funky items like a Perea pie and a brisket and bacon pizza created for Flower Mound mayor Derek France. One called “Duck,” named after Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, is topped with jambalaya in honor of his Louisiana upbringing.

Consumers looking to get the best pizza in the country, at least according to Yelp, will need to make a trip to Pasadena, California, to a restaurant called Sapori Di 786 Degrees.
