Everyone has a grocery store, and they usually have low prices, good deals, and a variety of products. But where you go depends on where you live in the United States.
Thanks to a recent poll by USA Today, they’ve revealed the top 10 supermarkets in the country, and the results might surprise you a bit.
Regional supermarkets may be lesser-known companies, but they have a loyal customer base. Thus, the network from the city of Greensboro, North Carolina took the first place in the survey.
Fresh Market has 159 locations in 22 different states along the East Coast and Midwest. They offer customers a personalized shopping experience and are modeled after European grocery markets with a focus on high-quality product options.
“On March 5, 1982, the first The Fresh Market opened on Lawndale Drive in Greensboro, where the store still exists today,” according to their website. “Everything about this small, boutique specialty grocery store is designed to enhance the grocery shopping experience.
“The original 14,000-square-foot store differentiated itself from conventional supermarkets with locally grown produce, fresh-roasted coffee pods, an old-world butcher shop and fish market, an in-store bakery, and a fresh market atmosphere. cheeses and cured meats and flower stands. The original store was the blueprint for other locations.”
10 Hy-Vee has been ranked as the second best supermarket in the country for its excellent customer service. Hy-Vee prides itself on its slogan, “A Healthy Smile at Every Aisle.” They have more than 240 locations in the Midwest, including Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. They will soon open stores in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
Aldi was voted the third best supermarket and now has more than 2,100 stores nationwide since opening its first US store in Iowa in 1976. Aldi offers great produce at affordable prices and often has a wide selection of new seasonal items.
Other supermarkets that made the top 10 rankings were Lidl, Stew Leonard’s, Market Basket, Publix, Wegmans Food Markets, Trader Joe’s and PCC Community Markets.
Fans of Trader Joe’s and their fancy items such as bagel condiments or specialty frozen treats may be surprised to find the number 9 spot overall. However, there are approximately 530 Trader Joe’s nationwide.
The Top 10 winners were determined by popular vote after a panel of experts and USA Today 10 Best editors selected the supermarket industry.
