Hazelnut

Costco shoppers are raving about the store’s nuts. So do the team members who source and buy the products for the shelves. Buyers worked with almond, pistachio, and walnut suppliers in California’s San Joaquin Valley to bring 2 pounds of Kirkland Signature Heart Healthy Mixed Nuts, and then turned to hazelnut suppliers in Turkey to find the best quality of this nut. To add to the mix, according to Costco Connection magazine.

And hazelnut prices are legendary. On the store’s website, Kirkland Signature Salt-Free Mixed Nuts are listed at $19.99 for 2 1/2 pounds. At Whole Foods, 365 Everyday Value Roasted and Unsalted Deluxe Mixed Nuts cost $8.99 for 16 ounces. Buying them at Costco is almost like getting half a pound for free.

Cake

Costco executives learned not to splurge on success in mid-2020, shortly after the coronavirus pandemic began. Or cake. Costco’s half leaf cake has been extremely popular for years, but when the pandemic hit and big gatherings ended, Costco pulled the cake for under $20 from its offerings. Who needed cake to serve 48? Americans revolted, started a petition on Change.org, and took back their beloved prizes. Fun fact: A Costco half-sheet cake weighs more than 9 pounds.

Alcohol

In most states, you can buy alcohol at Costco even if you don’t have a membership, and people flock to warehouses to get a high-quality product at a low price. There has long been speculation as to who makes Costco’s Kirkland house-brand wines and liquors, but the actual producers remain a mystery. In a February 2021 article, Thrillist worked vigorously to find answers, and its expert wasn’t able to give the exact manufacturer’s name, but compared several Kirkland products favorably to some of the biggest names in liquor.

As for Kirkland Signature Blended Canadian Whiskey, for example, the expert guessed it was made by renowned producer Crown Royal. Cost difference? A 1.75-liter Kirkland brand bottle retails for $18.99, while a 750-milliliter bottle of Crown Royal starts at around $24.99 at discount retailers.

Pizza

If Costco were a pizza chain, it would easily be in the top 20 in the United States by sales volume. At just under $10 for a large 18-inch pizza, it’s a delicious steal. Costco has mastered the efficiency of making pizza and kept the price low, but that efficiency has also led to consistency in flavor.

According to Kitchn, a daily online food magazine, a Costco pizza starts out in a flattening machine that presses the dough before it goes to the sauce robot to coat it. Employees then coat the pizza with mozzarella and provolone cheeses before it hits the oven. Kitchn reports that pizza ovens only need six minutes for the finished product.

olive oil

Costco’s olive oil has a cult following. Samin Nosrat, host of “Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat” on Netflix (and author of the book), told the Seattle Times in a 2019 interview that Kirkland brand organic extra virgin olive oil is his destination. for daily use. “This is really good!” said.

And also really affordable. A 2-quart (about 67 ounce) bottle of Kirkland Signature Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is $15.99 on the Costco website. At Trader Joe’s, Trader Giotto’s Selezione Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil retails for $16.9 for 7.99 ounces.

Toilet paper

Some of the enduring images of the early days of COVID-19’s arrival in the United States – even before a pandemic was declared – were photos of Costco customers filling their cars with toilet paper that would become a precious commodity. They stocked higher quality paper at a more valuable price; A February 2021 New York Times toilet analysis gave the Kirkland Signature brand high marks for wet strength, softness and cleaning power (without doing much for absorption). With the Delta variant raising ongoing COVID-19 concerns, in late September Costco announced it would limit per capita sales of essential items, including toilet paper, to maintain supply.

tires

Costco is the tire store for many car owners, and Readers’ Digest said the store’s tire pricing has a secret: A different brand goes on sale each month. If the tire you want is available at a price you don’t want to pay, wait a few months if possible. The Costco website also has offers to save you money on packs on a set of four tires. A bonus if you buy tires here: Costco will repair punctures and replace tires for free for as long as you have them.

This can be a significant savings as flat repairs typically start at around $15 and tire rotation costs $35 and up. Tires should generally be replaced every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

Chicken

It’s no secret that Costco customers love the store’s legendary $4.99 rotisserie chicken, and shoppers devoured nearly 101 million chickens in 2020, Reader’s Digest reports. Costco has steadfastly refused to raise its prices over the years, even as it suffers from every single item sold. Reader’s Digest reports that the chain is losing as much as $40 million a year from chickens, but those chickens are getting shoppers through the door. Who among us didn’t go in for a $5 chicken and come out with $100 in the car?

Gift Cards

When is 40 dollars worth 50 dollars? When you purchase a Cinemark gift card from Costco’s website. Members can spend $39.99 to purchase a $50 gift card for the theater chain that can be used for admission tickets or treats. Costco also has other great deals on gift cards, including a $50 card for Jiffy Lube for just $37.99 or a $50 card at sports retailer Fanatics for $39.99.

Technical support

When it comes to purchasing a computer, camera, home theater system, tablet or television, consumers have a huge choice of stores and online sites. But Costco, as the place to buy electronics, has developed the following for a reason: free technical support. The technical team is available from 5 am to 10 pm (PT) seven days a week to answer installation questions or troubleshoot problems. While tech support isn’t necessarily a “product”, its availability drives businesses to the store.
