As Easter approaches two weeks from today, I’ve wondered throughout the Lenten season and before Easter begins, “What’s the best fish sandwich in the city of Bloomington, Indiana? ?”
Recognized as one of America’s best sports, bar and food cultures, Bloomington has a reputation for making some of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had.
As you will see from the list, there will be plenty of bars and grills mentioned on the list, and a few fast food restaurants as well as pubs and food chains are also included in this list.
Fish sandwiches are a delicacy that makes Lenten Catholics so refreshing. I rated the fish based on my love for a crispy, lightly breaded, so fresh, fried and breaded fish sandwich, and don’t forget the fries. Salty, a pinch of seasoning or a few seasoned fries always make a great side dish.
Here is a list of some of the best and worst fish sandwiches in Bloomington, Ind. First, here are some of the worst fish sandwiches in town.
Before we start everyone is entitled to have their own opinion on where they get their fish sandwiches that is just my opinion and if you have another fish sandwich even better or worse , to try or to eat, send me a direct message on Instagram and I would be happy to try a new fish that I have never had before.
Here is the list of the worst fish sandwiches in Bloomington.

1. Long John Silver’s
Ugh!
Just uh!
The fish was so much better when I was five years old when I was a spoiled brat who ate chicken nuggets and fries and fish fingers, but now the fish is old and it’s not extremely not healthy to eat it.
Once I found out the sodium content of Long John’s Silver was over 560mg, which is above the daily value for sodium, according to VeryFitWell dot com, I was about to get the big one when I was 14 when I heard this news.
I will never eat at Long John’s again due to poor childhood health.
2. Hardee’s
Again… phew!
Besides, who even goes to Hardee’s for a fish sandwich after Lent?
I’m not a fan of the panko breaded fish sandwich, but it’s good in some places, including Washington, Indiana.
I like fish but not at Hardee’s.
3.Burger King
They’re only known for the… “Whopper, whopper, whopper, whopper.”
Junior, double, triple fish, disgusting taste with old grease toppers, I hate this fish.
You rule the burgers and the shakes.
At BEEE-KAY! Do it your way!
Your rule *burgers*!
4. McDonald’s

Debate with me all you want, but a Filet-o-Fish is great in some places…not in Bloomington unless it’s fresh, prepared properly, and not doused with anything but a ton of mayonnaise.
I was a fan of this sandwich when I was a kid… not anymore. However, if I was in town late at night, I would eat a fish sandwich just once.
5. Metro

Again, who goes to the Subway for a fish sandwich?
Since all subway stations in Bloomington have been closed due to inspection issues except for two places, I’m opting for the subs and cookies, not a fish sandwich.
I didn’t even know they had fish anyway.
6. Freddy’s

Now fish is excellent at the Bloomington location when properly prepared and properly secured. In some places far from Bloomington, people hate this sandwich.
I think it’s not that bad. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, it’s got flavor but is dosed with mayonnaise and a ton of pickles.
It’s not so bad here, but you can try. Just avoid the traffic and I would recommend trying it while the store is open. Which is usually a limited time.
7. Longhorn Steakhouse
Who goes to Longhorn Steakhouse for a fish sandwich?
I thought they just had steak, lobster and maybe chicken served as a piece of meat and not on a sandwich.
Eh?
Learn something new every day.
8. Steak n’ Shake

Before the restaurant service deteriorated and the atmosphere changed, back when my 11 year old wanted to be the manager of a Steak n Shake and their pancakes were to die for, Steak n’ Shake had great fish sandwiches during Lent.
They didn’t add any sauce to the sandwich and it was a melt in your mouth type of sandwich. The bun was sweet but the fish was so good when I was little.
Now the service is limited, they are open for a limited time, with a location on the west side of town, and the whole business is collapsing very quickly according to reports for the past few years.
They used to keep the Steak n’ Shake classy, but now you have the staff fighting each other and the manager serving the meals.
It is an American tragedy to see a company born in Indiana go down the drain due to greed, corruption and bankruptcy.
It’s a sad story of America’s crippling economy.
9. Arby’s

This varies by location in Bloomington. There are two places with great sandwiches. One on the west side and another on the south side.
Their fish has no flavor, but the cod inside is average and they sprinkle the sandwich with more lettuce and tomatoes than picking weeds in our lawn.
Arby’s has an average fish sandwich. Nothing fancy, but add fries to the mix, and it’s so much better.
10. White Castle
No…don’t get me started on a sandwich in general at White Castle.
They’re so soggy they slip in your mouth…and that includes their fish sandwich.
I give White Castle a pass in general because it was the subject of a classic movie I would watch in my wild days in “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle”.
