Sun Princess is a new Sphere-class cruise ship currently under construction for Carnival’s Princess Cruises brand. It will be the largest ship in the Princess Cruises fleet and the first ship in the cruise operator’s fleet to be dual-fuel and powered primarily by liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel technology.
Sun Princess is being built as part of Carnival’s focus on green cruising, which will include a total of 11 new ships powered by LNG.
Italy-based shipbuilding company Fincantieri is building the ship at the Monfalcone yard. The ship’s debut is scheduled for February 2024.
Sun Princess design and features
The Sun Queen will be 345.3 m long and have a total weight of 175,500 GT. It consists of a total of 21 decks and accommodates 4,300 guests. It will feature spacious seating, multi-story dining rooms and next-level staterooms.
A suspended glass Piazza will feature a European square-inspired hub in the center of the ship with sparkling light and dynamic views. Spanning three floors, it will be interconnected with the ship’s many restaurants and bars.
The ship will also feature a Dome, a multi-level venue with a glass-enclosed dome and covered deck, the design of which was inspired by the Santorini terraces.

Sun Princess dining and bars
Horizons Dining will be a three-story dining space featuring a wide range of dining options on each level. It offers stunning views with natural light and a decorative sculpture that stretches from deck six to deck eight.
The Crown Grill specialty restaurant will feature contemporary, elegant design and theater-style cuisine. Offerings include premium aged beef and fresh seafood. The restaurant will feature intimate dining in a classically elegant setting and an open kitchen where chefs will prepare and cook premium cuts of beef and seafood to order.
Guests can enjoy fresh pasta at the new Sabatini Italian Trattoria with sweeping round windows. The restaurant will feature a bistro-style interior design with intimate corners and a dramatic circular dining area.
Located on the upper deck of the piazza, the International Cafe offers small snacks, sweets and delicious drinks. Offerings include fresh croissants, pies, quiches and a variety of salads and sandwiches.
Alfredo’s Pizzeria will be a sit-down location located on the upper deck of the Piazza and will serve freshly made personal size pizzas. It features an open kitchen design that allows guests to watch pizzas being prepared in a wood-fired oven. Guests can enjoy their pizza outdoors or in the Piazza.
Gelateria offers fresh gelato desserts with a variety of classic flavors or optional toppings.
Crooners Bar is located on the second level of the Piazza and has warm tones and a vintage vibe with live music and cocktails. The Good Spirits at Sea offers a mix of cuisine and drinks made with farm-fresh, local ingredients and cocktails in one place. The Wheelhouse bar features a compass-shaped structure that stretches from floor to ceiling.
Entertainment places in Sun Queen
The dome on the cruise ship has an indoor and outdoor pool during the day. The pool transforms into a stage at night to serve as a South Beach-style entertainment venue with the latest lighting effects.
Princess Arena will be a configurable performance space with an LCD panel that will bring performances to life.
Princess Live offers entertainment throughout the day, such as trivia, game shows, the Daily Wake Show and live concerts, including late-night comedy.
Guests can play slots or other table games at Princess Casino. Onboard retail will also be available at Princess stores.
Health and recreation facilities
The Lotus Spa will have two floors, including a salt room, aromatic steam room, enclave and plunge pool.
The oceanfront terrace and bar will be located at the bow of the ship and will include a two-deck bar and modern lounge.
The Wake View Terrace, located aft of the ship, will feature an infinity pool, a South Beach-style resort deck, and day and night entertainment, including a full bar.
The Sanctuary will be an adults-only retreat offering drinks and outdoor massages. The Signature Sun Deck will be a private area of the sanctuary for guests who book a signing.
Cabana Deck is an exclusive outdoor space with comfortable furniture and premium access for Cabana Mini-Suite guests.
Route of the Sun Queen
The Sun Princess is scheduled to begin her first cruise season in February 2024. She will sail for a season of Mediterranean cruises, followed by Caribbean sailings from Fort Lauderdale in late 2024.
