QUINCY, Mass., Aug. 3, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, Stop & Shop, along with Unilever’s Knorr® brand, announced that its 32nd annual Food for Friends campaign has raised more than $1.2 million for its 12 regional food bank partners to fight summer hunger in the communities it serves.

Summer can be the hungriest time of year for kids, and Stop & Shop recognizes the importance of raising awareness about hunger in kids this time of year. While families can count on free or low-cost meals for children during the school year, when school is out and the children are home, families have to buy more food, leading to an increase in the children’s hunger. According to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief network, 22 million children in the United States depend on school meals. When schools close for the summer, school meal programs often close as well.


Stop & Shop’s annual Food for Friends donation campaign tackles summer hunger this year by allowing customers in the grocer’s 400+ stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey at the cash register to support food insecure families in the Northeast, 100% of donations go directly to Stop & Shop’s 12 regional food bank partners.
