How is Nom Nom assigned to your dog?
You start by taking the Nom Nom test. Questions include your pet’s breed, body type, age, and noteworthy conditions (such as allergies, arthritis, or picky eating habits). It should only take you about 2 minutes to complete the whole thing.
From there, Nom Nom will recommend a science-backed recipe based on your test results, but you can still choose manually between any of the four available recipes. You can also choose up to two at a time, in case you want to see which one your dog likes best.
How is Nom Nom different?
It’s easy to see how a brand like Nom Nom is a step up from kibble. (It’s freshly made and includes whole food ingredients to preserve as much taste and nutrients as possible.) That said, there are a few popular dog food brands that create fresh recipes for your dog — so how is Nom Nom different from those?
For example, Nom Nom has an in-house team of animal experts, including PhD scientists and two board-certified veterinary nutritionists. This team guides not only the choice of ingredients, but also how it is made to preserve the most nutritional benefits.
Additionally, Nom Nom also does the heavy lifting for you in terms of serving sizes. The brand customizes your dog’s meal packages right down to the calories. As a result, each serving provides complete nutrition without the need to measure your pet’s portions. Just open the package and serve. (The brand also uses dry ice to keep food cool during transit and all packaging—including single-serving packages—is recycled or recycled.)
What are the recipes provided and what is in them?
Arguably the best thing about Nom Nom is how simple its recipes are. Each ingredient is easy to identify and pronounce – but that doesn’t mean it lacks nutrition. Staff dietitians meet the standards set by AAFCO’s nutrient profiles for dog foods with whole food ingredients.
- Chicken Kitchen: chicken, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, spinach
- Turkey fare: turkey, brown rice, eggs, carrots, spinach
- Pork potluckPork, potatoes, green beans, zucchini, kale, and mushrooms
- Beef Mash: beef, potatoes, eggs, carrots, peas
How much does a sleepover cost?
While the recipes are very transparent, the cost is a bit complicated. Plans start at $1.57 per meal, but since the meals are for each pet, the total cost will vary depending on the recipe you choose as well as your dog’s weight, age, and activity level. When I did my dog’s pretest (Oscar, a 12-pound Maltese mix with sensitivity and the most pleasing color palette ever), it came to roughly $32 a week.
However, Nom Nom is currently offering 50% off your first two-week shipment, so you can try the brand at half the discount. Shipping is free. Nom Nom is a subscription service, which means your dog’s food will be shipped to your home automatically every month. Billed and shipped every four weeks.
Who should not feed their pet Nom Nom?
Nom Nom does not currently prepare prescription diets for dogs with special medical issues, so if that is the case, it is best to work with your veterinarian to determine the best meal plan. (However, the brand says you can contact them directly and they will consult with their veterinary nutrition team to determine if Nom Nom is a good fit.)
