New Whataburger arrives in ax throwing venue Laredo: Final permit applications

Whataburger and Pizza Hut, a new ax throwing venue, are just a few of the businesses that will open stores in Laredo in the coming months, based on building permits issued to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). TDLR tracks all permits issued statewide, including new construction and renovation projects and renovations of existing businesses and buildings. Here are some of the latest Laredo projects filed in July.

Laredo Ax House
2324 Jacaman Street, Ste. 105 and 106

Type of work: New construction
Estimated timeline: 8/15/2022 – 10/17/2022
Estimated cost: $160,000
Scope of work: This project will complement the space of Laredo Ax House, an ax throwing entertainment business. The company’s Facebook page has already garnered more than 1,400 likes as its owners “shoot” for the grand opening in August.

Estimated timeline: 8/22/2022 – 11/25/2022
Estimated cost: $2,500,000
Scope of work: Whataburger will build a new restaurant in Laredo that will offer both drive-through and food service, according to the permit. The fast food joint’s website has 10 more Whataburger locations in the city of South Texas.

Pizza Hut

Type of work: Renovation/remodel
Estimated timeline: 8/1/2022 – 9/1/2022
Estimated cost: $250,000
Scope of work: This project will finish the space for a new delivery and pizza Hut restaurant only, the permit file is being read. The company has 10 more locations in Laredo, according to the Pizza Hut website.

Surf Crab Restaurant
620 W. Calton Rd.

Type of work: Renovation/remodel
Estimated timeline: 8/5/2022 – 9/30/2022
Estimated cost: $80,000
Scope of work: This project will renovate an existing building for a new Surfing Crab restaurant. The Cajun seafood association has locations in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Brownsville, and McAllen, and its website lists its Laredo location as “coming soon.”

Raquel Gonzalez Automotive Technology Center
5500 S. Zapata Road.

Estimated timeline: 8/1/2022 – 8/1/2023
Estimated cost: $5.1 million
Scope of work: According to the permit file, Laredo College will construct a new building for the Raquel Gonzalez Automotive Technology Center. The building will include shop areas, engine shops, welding stations and restrooms.

City of Laredo Animal Care Facility – Kennels “E” and new medical facility

Estimated timeline: 8/1/2022 – 7/31/2023
Estimated cost: $733,640
Scope of work: City of Laredo will build new outdoor indoor kennels, animal surgery and rescue areas, administrative spaces and storage for the animal care facility, permit is being read.

Blue House Restaurant
2411 Jacaman Cad.

Type of work: New construction
Estimated timeline: 11/1/2022 – 11/1/2023
Estimated cost: $1,500,000
Scope of work: Permit, 2411 Jacaman Rd. It is for the construction of a new restaurant called “Casa Azul”. The filing said the location would also be used for three building shells that would later be occupied by tenants.

Las Lomas Car Wash
2511 Lomas Del Sur Boulevard.

Scope of work: According to the permit dossier, a new self-service car wash with eight compartments, each with a vacuum cleaner, will be built on Lomas Del Sur Boulevard.
