Mother Dairy pledges 101,000 glasses of milk to commemorate the 101st anniversary of Dr. Kurien’s birth

Mother Dairy, India’s leading dairy player, has pledged to distribute 101,000 cups of milk to the underprivileged on the occasion of National Milk Day 2022, marking 101st anniversary of the birth of Dr. Verghese Kurien, also known as the father of the White Revolution of India.

The birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the white revolution in India, is celebrated as National Milk Day every year across the country. His “Billion Litre Idea”, Operation Flood, is the world’s largest dairy development programme, turning dairy farming into India’s largest self-sufficient industry and largest provider of rural employment. It made India the world’s largest milk producer from a milk-scarce nation. Mother Dairy was established in 1974 during this noble initiative of Operation Flood, under the able leadership of Dr. Kurien.

Calling for the participation of its consumers and supporters, Mother Dairy has also launched a digital game: #OneGlassMilk Game, which can be played at https://www.motherdairy.com/OneGlassMilk/. Through this, Mother Dairy is calling on everyone, seeking support across the country, to join the movement and help them achieve the goal.

Speaking about the initiative, Manish Bandlish, Managing Director of Mother Dairy, said: “We are indebted to Dr. Kurien for his vision and making India the largest producer of milk. His contribution to the growth of the Indian dairy industry cannot be expressed in words. We started this initiative in 2019 with the goal of spreading the word about the importance of milk and dairy products, urging the general public to enact the practice of offering a glass of milk as a source of food.”

Mother Dairy will distribute 101,000 glasses of milk in collaboration with leading NGOs, Akshaya Patra Foundation and Apna Ghar, in Delhi NCR.

Mother Dairy started up in 1974. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). It was established under the initiative of ‘Operation Flood’, the world’s largest dairy development program launched to make India a milk-sufficient nation.
