Marino’s Seafood is the dose of Columbus nostalgia you’ve been craving

Over the years, I’ve thought a lot about what makes certain things so nostalgic.

Whether you’re commenting on our social media or email responses from our daily newsletter, there are certain things about this city that obviously make our readers feel that joy or longing, and they’re not shy about letting us know. Perhaps there is not as much food and restaurants as Columbus.

Researchers suggest that when we associate food with happy memories, it’s not just a fleeting effect. It enhances how we perceive that food and how it makes us feel.

And it makes sense. In a city where a large part of its identity is wrapped up in food, it’s only natural that we all have those places, those dishes that take us back to a different and happier time.

Before stepping foot into Marino’s Seafood, I felt like I was in for a nostalgic experience. The exterior of this charming fish & chips joint also creates a feeling of stepping back in time.

The restaurant is far from modern. In fact, it has not changed over the years. From the decor to the menu prices to the drinks available being RC Cola products, it brings you back instantly.

There’s no question, Marino’s is not a place if you’re trying to ditch the fries or count calories. Everything on the menu comes right out of the fryer, from perfect fries to specially seasoned hash browns.

Although it is mainly a seafood, you can also get chicken. The fish is battered as it is made and is also very good with chips. One thing that misses the frying process is cole slaw or macaroni salad.

We went pretty big when we visited, ordering fish and chips, shrimp and chips, and chicken and chips. The fish was flaky and fried to perfection. The fries managed to achieve that crispy texture on the outside, soft on the inside. But the part of the meal I can’t get over was the hushpuppies.

They were tasty and unique and I can’t wait to go back for more.

Marino’s is a quiet place to meet a friend or enjoy a quiet meal. They also have something that almost no one else offers: All-you-can-eat day. On Saturdays, you can eat as many fish & chips, slaw and hushpuppies as you like.

Marino’s Seafood is located at 1216 W 5th Ave, Columbus, OH 43212. For more information or to view the menu, visit
