Luxury resort near Cancun unveils massive new renovation

New resorts are constantly opening in the Riviera Maya, and some existing resorts are regularly modified to improve the guest experience.

Such is the case at a luxury resort near Cancun that is unveiling a massive new renovation.

The Fairmont Mayakoba, located in a gated community near Playa del Carmen, just completed a multi-million dollar project that completely transformed the already popular AAA Five Diamond resort.

Renovated rooms, suites and casitas

A total of 401 accommodations have been renovated at the Fairmont Mayakoba. Renovated accommodations include the Deluxe Casitas, Signature Casitas, and Beach Area Casita Suites.

All of them are decorated in a simple, modern decor that blends in with the outdoor environment that surrounds them and gives a feeling of bringing nature inside.

Refurbished restaurants and new dining options

A gourmet steakhouse, Tauro was completed back in 2021, but this latest round of renovations added two more restaurants.

La Laguna is an outdoor-inspired concept with an outdoor seating area overlooking Mayakoba’s lagoon canals.

Bassano is a casual Italian restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and an outdoor pizza oven and bar.

A café, Café Maya, has also been added and is a traditional café concept.

Updated pool

The Fairmont Mayakoba has three beachfront pools and a main pool located in the center of the property.

One of the property’s pools is for adults only, and there’s also a children’s pool on the property.

The main pool is the most recently renovated, although the others were also recently renovated in 2021.

New beach club

The new beach club at Fairmont Mayakoba, Maykana Beach Club, is perhaps the best upgrade for the entire resort.

It has its own infinity pool and features oceanfront terraces with expansive ocean views, luxurious private cabanas, and fire pits for chilly nights.

The new Maykana Beach Club also offers five additional restaurants, each with a unique concept.

Maykana dining options

The new restaurants at Maykana Beach Club are all unique in their style of cuisine and atmosphere. Each also represents a different natural element. They include:

• breeze – An open-air concept restaurant with a Mediterranean-influenced menu. Sitting on a terrace overlooking the stunning Mexican Caribbean, it represents the element of air.
• Aqua – A Latin-inspired alfresco restaurant with a wood-fire grill and craft cocktails. Set in a stunning setting amidst a group of private poolside cabanas, it represents the element of water.
• Fuego – A grill restaurant concept inspired by Tulum and an ancient grilling method. It is set in a beautiful outdoor setting and represents the element of fire.
• Gaia – Maykana Beach Club’s signature restaurant, Gaia, represents the element of earth. It offers a fresh local seafood menu that also includes fresh seafood from around the world.
• Cielo – An adults-only lounge with sunset views and a fun atmosphere. The venue represents the element ether, known in some cultures as the fifth element.

Would highly recommend the resort and suggest going all inclusive [email protected] is a very exclusive area, has several hotels together behind security. Lots of celebrities vacation there. Despite being so exclusive, it makes it difficult to dine elsewhere. Eating out at the resort can get very expensive, so I strongly recommend paying for all inclusive.

The future of Fairmont Mayakoba

The Fairmont Mayakoba has also made improvements to common areas like the lobby and reception areas, as well as the existing kids’ club on the property.

A second kids’ club was also added. Further conversions and upgrades are planned for the near future.

Renovations for the spa and fitness areas are scheduled for May 15 through December 2023, and renovations for the meeting and convention areas are scheduled to begin in late June and be completed by December 2023.
