First Fridays, Muletown School of Music

Take a breather from what was a busy week, which included an election and school that had started again, with a festive first Friday, live music, comedy and more.

1. First Fridays

Penny Butler and her granddaughter Cate Bryan, 2, walk with Mark Lewis down West 7th Street at a First Friday event in Columbia, Tennessee, on Friday, August 8, 2021.

After the first week of back to school, I’m sure many local families could use a fun night out to start their weekend.

The August edition of First Friday returns this weekend. The ever-popular monthly gathering always brings a large crowd to downtown Columbia.

As always, many of the downtown shops will be open late and offer special sales. Dine at local restaurants, food trucks, shop among the vendors and enjoy lots of great live entertainment.

First Friday’s main events take place on Fridays from 5pm to 8pm.

2. Makky Kaylor Puckett’s Launch Party

Singer-songwriter Makky Kaylor of “The Swanky South’s” returns to Puckett’s this Saturday for a special concert in his hometown, with a special announcement.

The announcement is being kept a secret, but Kaylor says it will be well worth the wait, and he’s especially proud to have it unveiled at Puckett’s, where he’s been a regular over the years. It was also the location where Kaylor recorded his live album ‘Live from The Swanky South’, which was released last year.
