barbecue. Boba. Pho guys. Here’s a look at new MS Coast restaurants open now or coming soon.

Just a month after the Sun Herald published a list of 19 new restaurants opening up along the coast, here are details for a dozen more that have just opened or are on their way.

The new is being finalized Turbid waters at 1312 Government St., just a block from its original location, and co-owner Brandon Atwell said it will open within the next week.

Atwell and his business partners Frankie Penn and Thomas Young opened Murky Waters Blues & BBQ in Gulfport in 2013, the original Ocean Springs location in 2014, followed by another in Hattiesburg. They bought the grounds for their new Ocean Springs restaurant in 2019 and waited out the pandemic.

Then the downtown Bay St. Louis location was born.

“It’s our first project from the ground up,” he said of the new Ocean Springs Murky Waters. Like the original and other spots, the new spot will feature the three B’s – barbecue rubbed dry and slow smoked with local pecan wood, along with brews and blues.

The two-story restaurant has a wooden balcony that he said is a rooftop bar, but with the roof. The second floor also has a banquet hall, and because they couldn’t install an elevator, “all amenities will be on both floors,” he said.

Workers continue to complete construction of the new Murky Waters building in Ocean Springs. The new venue will open soon and, like the original which opened in 2014, will have a large covered terrace and stage right in the middle of the action on Government Street.
