Are you in the mood for barbecue? Try the best barbecue in Lansing

I am now on a high protein diet. That means I can eat BBQ, I’ll stick to dry rubs to avoid the carbs. There are many barbecue restaurants in Lansing, let’s find out who has the best.

In my opinion, the Lansing market is saturated with BBQ places. There are so many options available to pork lovers in mid-Michigan, some of them are at the top. Whether you’re looking for ribs, ribs, pulled pork, or chicken, there’s a place out there for you.

For me, I’m a fan of MEAT in Old Town, Gravity on Cedar St. at Holt and Saddleback. The mountain of meat is one of the best dishes created in the history of mankind and you can do that at MEAT. Gravity has an amazing pulled pork. Saddleback BBQ has tasty protein products, but their baked beans are the best on the planet.

When I put together a list like this, I get feedback from groups like Yelp. I don’t have the time or money to try every dish at every restaurant in Lansing. I find the reviews helpful when making a decision about a new place to try.

Every barbecue place in Lansing has its own take on barbecue. I can appreciate that because with so many BBQ places in Lansing, there has to be something that sets your restaurant apart from the rest.

Excellent food. Ordered takeout and the food still arrived hot. We had the pulled pork and it was very good. The prices may seem a bit high, but trust me, it’s worth every penny. Plus, they contribute a lot to the community, so it’s a win, win.

I LOVE me some BBQ and Meat BBQ in Lansing, MI is one of the best BBQ around! For about 10 years, it won Best New Restaurant in 2012 and has been featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and the Big 10 Network food show. I have been there several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed. On my last visit I had the brisket sandwich which, as always, was tender and tasty. They offer a wide variety of toppings (see photos for list of types). Portions are ample. In the past, I’ve had their ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork, and Texas hot dogs (not always available). They have an amazing variety of custom fries, as well as very interesting fried marinades and a “BBQ egg roll”, stuffed with house-made Andouille sausage, pimento cheese and poblano peppers, served with BBQ ranch as an appetizer . The staff is efficient and friendly, and the service is fast, even after the pandemic. Really worth the visit!

We always go to the place to get Bahn-Mih’s. They pack the sandwiches with a lot of protein. They are a fusion of barbecue and Vietnamese. My favorite is their pork, but we’ve also tried the Brisket. Both are amazing and very filling. Call ahead and place your order so that when you arrive, your order will be hot and ready to go.

To quote one of our group “these are not your everyday ribs” The food was amazing, the staff were friendly, the restaurant is clean and smells amazing. Good find!

I bought a full rack of ribs with slaw and mac&cheese. The ribs were perfect. Very tasty, slightly spicy smoky flavor and allowed the meat to be the star. The meat was a bit dry but the BBQ sauce made up for it; it wasn’t sweet or overpowering and made the ribs taste better. The Mac & Cheese was light and paired well with the mixed rib meat. Cole’s salad was a perfect end to the meal, a little sweet and they used these little black seeds which made it really good. I got there when they were closing (they close early, in the afternoon) but they were more than happy to wrap my ribs in aluminum foil and put them in a box so they wouldn’t fall apart. I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish it but I sat in the car in a nearby park happily eating… 45 minutes flew by and I was surprised to see that I ate it all. Don’t be put off by the outward appearance and timing, come in and try the food. Meat lovers will not be disappointed.

The food here is very good. The service and staff are very friendly. I had the smoked sausage and cornbread and it was very good. The sausage was cooked perfectly with a nice mild smoky flavor. My wife and son had the BBQ brisket nachos and loved them. Gravity sauce makes everything taste better.

The best BBQ ever…. Oh my god!!! The meat is smoked, the hot dogs are grilled, all the sides are homemade… They are only open on Friday and Saturday, because they are also busy during the week! They open at 11 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. or when they sell out! (They sell out fast) And their menu changes every week.

I sent an inquiry about catering for 14 people at work and 517 BBQ was quick to respond to my email. I had two requirements: the food had to be delivered by 10:30am for our 1st lunch break shift and individually packed to meet my company’s “no communal eating” policy to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Their online catering menu said this business wasn’t available before noon, but I got a great response that said, “We’ve got you covered.”

To keep things simple, I gave my team a choice of either a pulled pork sandwich or a chicken sandwich ($5.99) and the option of a side ($2.99). If they didn’t want a sandwich, they could have a house salad with their choice of meat ($8.99). The shipping fee was a super cheap $5, can’t beat that!

Everyone was happy with their meal. The salads had a large serving of meat. The sandwiches were plentiful with soft, fresh buns. All the side dishes were filled to the brim. Each person got a drink, but I just ordered water for everyone because I can’t be too nice to my co-workers or they’ll think I really like them.
