In March 2022, the bakery posted on Facebook excitement for its new neighbor, Trader Joe’s. “…Trader Joe could be our new neighbor at #Glastonbury! Hmmm, yes please…what’s your favorite Trader Joe’s product?’ wrote the bakery.

Known for its signature grocery shopping experience, complete with Hawaiian T-shirt-wearing staff and hand-drawn signs throughout the store interior, this will be the ninth Trader Joe’s in Connecticut.

There are 21 Trader Joe’s stores in the Bay State, but only one in Western Massachusetts, located in Hadley, according to the Trader Joe’s website.

The next closest store in the western part of the state is in Shrewsbury, and the third closest to the region is in Manchester, Conn. In addition to Hyannis, the chain has several locations in the Boston area and beyond.

Trader Joe’s recently opened another store in New England, located in Providence, Rhode Island on November 3, 2022.

Before the doors open at 8 a.m., there will be a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony with store captain Alex O’Brien and Trader Joe’s crew members, the company said. According to Trader Joe’s, the interior of the store should be decorated with artwork that “communicates the history of the city to customers.”

The grocery chain said it needs to hire more than 80 new crew members from areas surrounding the store, and the company is still looking for people to apply through the Careers section of its website.

The company added that the new Glastonbury Trader Joe’s will donate all of its unsold products that “remain eligible” to “Community-Based Organizations” through a partnership with its Neighborhood Shares program. In 2022, the company donated “more than $411 million in food and beverages to 1,385 nonprofit partners in communities across the country.”
