8 Discontinued Costco Foods We Want Back – Eat This

A sense of hope permeates Costco aisles as shoppers seek out these iconic deals that will soon be on their to-buy lists forever. Sadly, some iconic staples get a “death star” — an asterisk on a store sign that says Costco will no longer carry the item — and many members make it their mission to take notes before it’s too late.

In recent years, we’ve had to tearfully say goodbye to a handful of stunning Costco purchases, despite passionate Change.org campaigns in protest. Sometimes consumer demand wins, but other times these products disappear altogether. Here are eight favorites we still nostalgically miss (including a few that are back!)

It’s been a long time since we said goodbye to this cheesy, bready flavor with peppers, sausages, peppers, olives, onions and mushrooms. But can reasoning give us a conclusion?

According to Reddit’s comment to a post in late April, the pandemic was not the impetus to remove the best item from the menu. “It was in the work before COVID. It just accelerated,” they wrote. “Basically too many vegetables would be wasted. Streamline operations. Cost savings.”

On second thought, maybe not. We’ll probably never get over this.

It’s been a little over a year since we discovered that Costco customers have to say. ciao To the 2.2lb Lavazza package. At $12.99, the price was unbeatable, and according to those who commented on @costcohotfinds’ Instagram post, it was also top-notch quality. Someone said, “As a true Italian, Lavazza is the BEST”.

With the shortages currently affecting your caffeine fix, there’s no guarantee the price will stay the same today, but it’s still a steal compared to a $10 bag at Jewel-Osco that’s one-third its size.

These creamy, customizable vanilla and chocolate cupcakes were a holy grail for do-it-yourself party throwers. But in 2020, they were replaced with 10-inch cakes to discourage social gatherings – which terrified customers. Nowhere else will you find a customizable cake canvas sized to feed 48 for under $20.

Good news? Costco listened to people and said, “Let them eat cake.” By Crazy Coupon Lady blog, Kirkland members can pre-order a half-page cake complete with your chosen design from 12 different options, as long as you give the oven 24 hours. Miracles do happen.

One of the perks of shopping at Costco is the great deals you can access as a member. And with milk prices soaring, where can you buy your cheese? When this 24-month-old parmigiano reggiano was removed indefinitely from the store’s catalog, Kirkland customers stood up.

But – could it be? We may have seen it on the Costco Business Center website for $12.49 per pound. If you don’t know that your regular membership gives you access to Business Center, you can try your luck at one near you.

If you loved Costco pizza but craved it after leaving the food court, this ready-to-cook refrigerated version has you covered until the end of 2021, when it’s pulled from the aisles.

A Reddit post asked where the pizza was, and one user came across this disappointing development: “Looks like it’s been replaced by ordering a whole cooked pizza from the food court. They’re good I guess but I like the convenience of giving hope to that giant uncooked pizza and cooking it when we’re ready to eat it.”

“Of course not Costco, but Aldi still has a big win if you need a fix and cooks up to $5-8,” another reviewer added. While this softens the blow, it doesn’t quite close the pie-shaped hole in our hearts.

Removed from the food court in 2018, this is nothing new—but it’s still a tough pill to swallow. The beloved Polish dog is nowhere to be found in the warehouse walls and is unlikely to return. Countless Change.org petitions have already tried. The company even issued a statement announcing the disappearance, citing healthier all-beef options that they say drive customers more sales than polish.

This Japanese snack is sold in more places than Costco, but Kirkland members had a sweet deal when each box of the 12-pack was under $1 each. According to this Reddit user, various packs containing the flavor trio like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry were also sold in some places. Unfortunately, they were removed from the catalog in October 2021.

What makes these so good on the go is that one Reddit user said, “I love that it takes forever to eat a pack. Sometimes it takes so long I really can’t wait! ‘How come there’s still so much?!'”

Among the dropouts are these lean meat alternative patties that are perfect for high-protein meal prep. These too have garnered a petition, but apparently Kirkland turkey burgers are a lost cause.

One Reddit user explained in a post that the original’s successors didn’t fit the bill. “I’ve used them for everything like chili, spaghetti, tacos, etc. I used to thaw the meatballs and chop them in the pan,” they wrote. “I finally tried the Columbuses… I think they’re pretty good. They’re not as good as the Kirkland brands, they taste so clean that they don’t leave a playful aftertaste.”
